What this site collects, what it doesn't, and the third parties involved.
Last updated June 2026
Hours to Burn is a small personal site, and it collects about as little as a site can. There's no account to make, no login, and no newsletter signup. This page covers the few places data does come into it, nearly all of it through other companies' tools, and what you can do about it.
What I collect directly
Close to nothing. I don't run accounts or logins, and there are no forms here asking for your name or email. I don't see or store anything that identifies you personally.
What every site sees
Like any website, the service that hosts this one (Cloudflare) automatically receives standard technical information when your browser loads a page, such as your IP address, your browser type, and which page you opened. That is ordinary web traffic data. I don't use it to identify you, and I don't combine it with anything else. The site also loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, which means your browser contacts Google to fetch them and Google may receive your IP address as part of that request.
Affiliate links and cookies
I may add affiliate links in the future. When you click that kind of link, the retailer can set a cookie so it can credit a purchase back to this site, which is how the commission works. Any such cookie belongs to that retailer and is governed by their privacy policy, and you can clear or block cookies in your browser settings whenever you like. Right now there are no affiliate links on the site.
The shop finder and your location
The find-a-shop tool can show cigar shops near you. It only uses your location if you allow it when your browser asks, and you can say no. When you do allow it, your location is used in that moment to find nearby shops through mapping services (OpenStreetMap and related tools), and the map images come from those services too. I don't store your location, and the site keeps no record of it.
Links to other sites
The site links out to places I don't control, including retailers, mapping services, and my Instagram. Once you follow a link you're on their turf, and their privacy policy applies, not this one.
Children
This site is meant for adults of legal smoking age. It isn't directed at children, and I don't knowingly collect information from anyone underage.
Your choices
You control the main things here. You can block or clear cookies in your browser, and you can decline the location prompt on the shop finder. Neither one breaks the site. You just won't get nearby-shop results without sharing location.
Changes
I may update this page as the site changes, for instance if I add analytics or a newsletter later. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
Reaching me
If you have a question about any of this, the best way to reach me is through the site's Instagram.
